A young Andalusian shepherd boy, Santiago, has a dream about a treasure to be found at the pyramids in Egypt. A gypsy woman and a mysterious king tell him to follow his dream; it is his personal legend. After deliberation, and listening to what the soul of the world is trying to tell him he decides to follow. He has been advised that when someone is following their personal legend that the world conspires to help them achieve their goal, however it only seems to be conspiring to leave him poor and dead.

Timeless and inspirational, the Alchemist expresses the importance of following ones dreams whatever it might be. This story is entwined with a deep sense of spirituality and love, but fortunately is not too preachy or sappy. The story is simple and brief making for a quick read that will leave you feeling happy and maybe a little introspective.
